Grand Cayman Island – A 6 Day Getaway In Paradise

The number one question I got asked after visiting Grand Cayman was “is this your new favorite island?” And I will answer that very quickly. While YES, it is now at the top of my list, Aruba will still forever be my favorite. Here is how I would rank the islands I have visited so far:

  1. Aruba
  2. Grand Cayman
  3. Turks and Caicos
  4. St Lucia

Obviously everyone has their own opinions and own experiences… this is just based off of my own. My reason for being second on my list is, although the water is some of the bluest I have ever seen (besides Turks), getting into the water can be a tough challenge depending on where you are on the island. Grand Cayman is completely surrounded by coral which can make it super hard to enjoy floating around in the ocean water.

When we landed in Grand Cayman, I didn’t expect to feel so instantly at ease. The warm Caribbean breeze, the endless blue of the ocean, and the excitement of exploring a new location with some of my best friends made it feel like we’d stepped into another world. From snorkeling with stingrays to lazy afternoons soaking up the sun, the island offered the perfect mix of adventure and relaxation. It wasn’t just a vacation—it was a chance to reconnect with nature, good company, and myself.

WHERE WE STAYED

We stayed at an absolutely stunning Airbnb, So Serene, located right on Rum Point, and it was everything you could dream of in a tropical getaway. The villa is perched on the northern coast of Grand Cayman, offering breathtaking ocean views that greet you the moment you wake up. It’s a spacious, modern home surrounded by swaying palms and crystal-clear waters, making it feel like a private paradise. The villa’s amenities were next-level—whether it was the luxury of kayaking right from the backyard or relaxing in the heated spa after a long day of exploring, every detail was designed for comfort and relaxation. The fully-equipped kitchen made cooking at home a breeze, but with options for a private chef and gourmet meal deliveries, we never had to lift a finger. And, the best part? The stunning oceanfront views from the deck, where we enjoyed morning coffee while watching the sunrise. If you’re looking for a place to unwind, unplug, and truly experience the island at its best, So Serene was the perfect home base for our trip.

One of the highlights of staying at So Serene was the seamless blend of adventure and relaxation right at our doorstep. The villa’s private beach access allowed us to easily explore the crystal-clear waters, whether we were kayaking, snorkeling, or just floating in the warm Caribbean sea. For those seeking more laid-back moments, the outdoor shower was perfect for rinsing off the salty ocean water before heading to the heated spa for a soak. The villa’s proximity to Rum Point meant we could easily walk to nearby restaurants and beach clubs, but we also enjoyed a few nights in with the convenience of grocery delivery and home-cooked meals. The kitchen was fully stocked with everything you could need, from a wine cooler to a gourmet knife set, making it easy to prepare our own meals—or indulge in local delicacies brought right to our door. With all these luxurious amenities, we were able to strike the perfect balance between island adventures and serene relaxation.

If you’re traveling with a group, I can’t recommend So Serene enough. With accommodations for up to 12 guests, it’s perfect for family vacations, friend getaways, or even a small retreat. The layout of the villa offers plenty of private space, but also invites everyone to come together in the open, airy common areas. Whether you’re cooking meals together in the spacious kitchen, lounging by the beach, or enjoying a sunset BBQ on the deck, there’s enough room for everyone to spread out or bond. Plus, the extra perks—like the outdoor shower, private yoga instructor, and personalized recommendations for charters and tours—make this place a true luxury experience. It’s a rare find that combines both the fun of group travel and the peaceful escape we all need to recharge.

TRANSPORATION AND GENERAL INFORMATION

Getting around Grand Cayman is easy and straightforward, especially if you’re staying at a villa as central as So Serene. Renting a car is highly recommended for maximum flexibility. We went with Budget for our rental, and while it takes a little getting used to, driving on the left side of the road quickly becomes second nature. The island is small enough that you can easily drive around the entire perimeter in under an hour, making it simple to explore the various beaches and attractions at your own pace. If you’re not keen on driving, taxis are reliable, and you can also rent bikes or scooters for a more leisurely way to see the island.

For stocking up on essentials, we found Foster’s, the main grocery store on the island, to be well-stocked with both local and imported items. It’s the perfect place to pick up everything you need to cook meals at the villa or grab snacks for the beach. As for currency, the Cayman Dollar (KYD) is the local currency, which is roughly equivalent to 1.20 USD. A travel card is definitely ideal for avoiding international transaction fees while making payments more convenient.

Though the island is small and easy to navigate, if you’re looking to explore remote corners or try local activities, I recommend booking a private charter for things like snorkeling, fishing, or island tours. Whether you’re driving or using local transport, there are plenty of options to make your way around and enjoy all that Grand Cayman has to offer.

WHERE TO EAT

Kaibo – One of our absolute favorite dining spots on the island was Kaibo Beach, a place that instantly gave us the feeling of being in a movie. The atmosphere was nothing short of magical—imagine sandy toes, cool ocean breezes, and the sound of live music filling the air. It’s the kind of place where time slows down, and you’re just there, soaking up the vibes. The food? Absolutely incredible. Known for its BBQ and Caribbean-inspired dishes, Kaibo is often rated as having the best food on the island, and I can see why. Every bite was bursting with flavor, from tender meats to fresh seafood straight from the ocean. But it wasn’t just about the food; the whole experience was unforgettable. The staff was incredibly friendly, and we met some amazing people, all sharing in the laid-back, island energy. With live music in the background and the sun setting over the water, it was an evening we’ll never forget. Whether you’re in the mood for a casual bite or want to indulge in an unforgettable dining experience, Kaibo is definitely a must-visit.

Solis at Rum Point, Rum Point Club – Another standout dining experience was at Solis at Rum Point, where we enjoyed an unforgettable meal right by the water. The setting was stunning, with picturesque views of the turquoise sea and soft, sandy shores just steps away. It was the perfect place to unwind, with a chilled atmosphere and top-notch service. The food at Solis was as amazing as the views—fresh, flavorful, and expertly prepared. Whether you’re enjoying a refreshing cocktail or a full-course meal, you really can’t go wrong here.

Just a short walk from Solis is the Rum Point Club, a casual spot with a welcoming vibe that’s perfect for a laid-back afternoon. It’s a great place to grab a drink, try some local snacks, and enjoy the cool breeze. The staff here was incredibly friendly, making us feel like we were part of the island’s extended family. With its relaxed vibe and beachfront location, Rum Point Club is a fantastic place to kick back, meet new people, and experience the true essence of Grand Cayman.

Coccaloba – For a relaxed lunch with an unbeatable beachside setting, Coccoloba was a perfect choice. Located at the Kimpton Seafire Resort, it offers a laid-back atmosphere with stunning views of the beach and crystal-clear waters. The food was fresh, vibrant, and full of flavor—think fresh seafood, light salads, and tropical cocktails that pair perfectly with the island vibe. We couldn’t resist lounging by the water after our meal, enjoying the gorgeous beach area that was right at our feet. It was the ideal spot to take in the views, feel the sun on your skin, and just relax. Whether you’re looking for a quick bite or a place to unwind for the afternoon, Coccoloba’s combination of delicious food and beautiful beach setting makes it a must-visit.

La Casita – For a more intimate dining experience, La Casita was one of the highlights of our trip. Tucked away in a charming corner of Grand Cayman, this cozy, family-owned restaurant offers authentic Caribbean flavors with a touch of local flair. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, making it feel like you were dining at a friend’s home. From the moment we sat down, the service was exceptional, and the food was even better. We indulged in perfectly prepared seafood, flavorful jerk chicken, and decadent sides that left us wanting more. La Casita is known for its relaxed vibe and high-quality ingredients, making it a fantastic choice for anyone looking to enjoy a delicious, home-cooked-style meal with a unique local twist. If you’re craving something that feels both personal and truly Caymanian, La Casita is definitely worth a visit.

Tukka Restaurant – For a truly unique dining experience, Tukka was a standout on our trip. Located in the eastern part of the island, Tukka offers a mix of Caribbean and Australian-inspired cuisine, making it a one-of-a-kind spot to enjoy a meal. The restaurant’s open-air seating gives you stunning views of the sea, and the laid-back atmosphere makes it the perfect place to relax and enjoy a leisurely dinner. The menu was a delightful fusion of fresh local seafood, hearty meats, and vibrant flavors, with dishes like the famous Cayman-style fish and chips or the mouthwatering grilled snapper. We were also treated to some great cocktails and a selection of Australian wines to complement our meal. Tukka’s friendly service and vibrant vibe made it a memorable evening, and if you’re looking for something off the beaten path with amazing food and an unbeatable setting, Tukka is a must-visit.

Tortuga @ The Westin – If you’re craving a refined yet relaxed dining experience, Tortuga at The Westin is a perfect choice. Located right on Seven Mile Beach, this charming spot offers an elegant setting with sweeping ocean views that make every meal feel like a special occasion. Known for its high-quality seafood and Caribbean-inspired dishes, Tortuga serves up everything from fresh fish to mouthwatering steaks, all beautifully prepared with local ingredients. The atmosphere here strikes the perfect balance between upscale dining and a laid-back beach vibe, making it ideal for both romantic dinners and casual meals with friends. We enjoyed a leisurely lunch, savoring the flavors of the island while watching the waves crash nearby. The service was impeccable, and the wine list offered a fantastic selection to pair with our dishes. If you’re looking for a meal that combines exceptional food with a stunning beachfront location, Tortuga is definitely worth a visit.

THINGS TO DO

Crystal Caves – One of the most awe-inspiring experiences on the island was visiting Crystal Caves, a natural wonder that’s truly unlike anything I’ve seen before. Tucked away in the lush rainforest, the caves are a hidden gem and offer a chance to explore the island’s underground beauty. As soon as you step inside, you’re greeted by breathtaking stalactites, stalagmites, and crystal formations that sparkle like something out of a dream. The guided tour takes you through the caves, where you’ll learn about their geological history and the fascinating wildlife that inhabits the area. It’s a peaceful yet adventurous experience, and the cool cave air is a refreshing escape from the heat of the island. For anyone looking to add a little adventure to their Grand Cayman trip, Crystal Caves is a must-visit—whether you’re a nature lover, an adventurer, or just someone looking to see something extraordinary.

Visit Sting Ray City –

A trip to Grand Cayman wouldn’t be complete without visiting Stingray City—one of the most iconic experiences the island has to offer. Imagine stepping into the warm, shallow waters of the Caribbean and being surrounded by friendly, graceful stingrays that swim right up to you. It feels like something out of a nature documentary, but it’s real, and it’s absolutely magical.

We chose to book our excursion with Silver Thatch Water Sports, and it was an unforgettable experience. From the moment we boarded the boat, the crew made us feel welcome and safe. The boat ride to Stingray City itself was a scenic tour, giving us a chance to take in the stunning waters and surrounding scenery. Once we arrived, we waded into the clear, waist-deep water where dozens of wild stingrays gracefully glided around us. The guides offered plenty of information about these amazing creatures, from their behavior to conservation efforts, while also giving us the opportunity to gently touch and interact with the rays. It was a humbling experience to be so close to these beautiful animals, and the sensation of having one brush past you is unlike anything else.

Another great option for visiting Stingray City is Red Sail Sports, another well-known tour company on the island. Their tours also include expert guides and a fun, relaxed atmosphere, perfect for anyone looking to enjoy the rays from the water or even get in some snorkeling while you’re at it. With both companies offering excellent services, you really can’t go wrong. Whether you choose to swim with the stingrays or simply observe, it’s an activity that should be at the top of your Cayman Islands bucket list.

If you’re looking for a combination of adventure, wildlife, and unforgettable memories, a visit to Stingray City is definitely one for the books. It’s not just an activity; it’s an experience you’ll treasure for years to come.

Starfish Point – For a quiet and beautiful escape, Starfish Point is a must-visit. Located at the northern tip of Grand Cayman, this peaceful spot is home to vibrant red and orange starfish that can be found just off the shore in shallow waters. The calm, clear water makes it easy to spot these incredible creatures as you wade through, offering a serene and intimate nature experience. It’s a perfect spot to relax, snap some photos, or enjoy a peaceful moment away from the crowds. Starfish Point is free to visit and easily accessible, making it an ideal addition to your Grand Cayman itinerary if you’re looking for a peaceful, nature-filled afternoon.

Swim with Turtles – Swimming with sea turtles is an unforgettable experience in Grand Cayman. At Cayman Turtle Centre, you can snorkel in crystal-clear waters and interact with these gentle creatures in their natural habitat. The turtles are friendly and curious, often swimming right up to you, allowing you to get a close-up view of these incredible animals. It’s an amazing chance to learn about turtle conservation efforts while enjoying the beauty of the island’s underwater world. Whether you’re a seasoned snorkeler or a beginner, swimming with turtles is a must-do activity that captures the magic of Grand Cayman’s marine life.

Botanical Gardens – For a peaceful escape into nature, the Botanical Gardens is a must-visit. Located in the heart of Grand Cayman, this lush, beautifully maintained garden offers a serene stroll through native plants, tropical flowers, and towering trees. The highlight is the Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park, where you can explore walking trails, spot colorful birds, and immerse yourself in the island’s natural beauty. The gardens are also home to the rare Blue Iguana, a species native to the island, and it’s a treat to see these incredible creatures in their protected habitat. Whether you’re a plant lover, wildlife enthusiast, or just seeking a quiet retreat, the Botanical Gardens offers a perfect blend of nature and tranquility.

Visit the Blow Holes – If you’re looking for a dramatic and natural display of power, a visit to the Blow Holes on the eastern coast is a must. These incredible natural formations are created when the waves crash against the rocky shore, forcing water through gaps in the coral and shooting it high into the air like a geyser. The best time to visit is during high tide or when the seas are rough, as the blowholes put on a spectacular show. While the area is a bit off the beaten path, it’s well worth the trip for the chance to witness such a raw, untamed part of the island’s coastline. It’s a perfect spot to take in the beauty of the rugged shore and enjoy a peaceful moment away from the crowds. The Blow Holes offer an unforgettable experience and a great photo opportunity for those looking to explore Grand Cayman’s natural wonders.

7 Mile Beach – No trip to Grand Cayman is complete without spending time at 7 Mile Beach, one of the most famous and stunning beaches in the Caribbean. Stretching for, you guessed it, seven miles, this soft, white-sand beach offers everything you could want for a perfect day by the sea. The water here is crystal-clear and calm, making it ideal for swimming, snorkeling, or simply lounging under the sun. Whether you’re looking to soak up the sun, try water sports, or just enjoy the incredible views, 7 Mile Beach has it all. The beach is lined with resorts, restaurants, and bars, so it’s easy to grab a refreshing drink or enjoy a meal with a view. It’s also one of the most accessible beaches on the island, making it perfect for visitors of all types—families, couples, and solo travelers alike. If you’re looking for a place to truly unwind and experience the beauty of Grand Cayman, 7 Mile Beach is a must.

Spa Day @ Westin or Ritz Carlton

For those seeking ultimate relaxation and a touch of luxury, a spa day at either The Westin or Ritz Carlton is a must. Both resorts offer world-class spa experiences that are perfect for unwinding after a few days of adventure and exploration on the island.

At The Westin, the Spa at The Westin Grand Cayman offers a serene escape with a variety of treatments designed to relax, rejuvenate, and refresh. From signature massages that melt away stress to facials that leave your skin glowing under the Caribbean sun, the spa’s tranquil ambiance and expert therapists ensure a truly luxurious experience. You can also enjoy their outdoor relaxation area, where the soft sounds of nature enhance the calm atmosphere.

If you’re looking for a more opulent spa experience, head to The Ritz-Carlton and treat yourself to the Silver Rain Spa, which is known for its exclusive treatments and indulgent atmosphere. Silver Rain offers a full range of services, from hydrating body scrubs to deep tissue massages. One of their most popular treatments is the “Ritz-Carlton Signature Massage,” which blends different techniques to ease muscle tension while promoting relaxation. The spa’s design itself is inspired by nature, creating a soothing and tranquil atmosphere, and after your treatment, you can relax in their post-treatment lounge or take a dip in the outdoor pool overlooking the ocean.

Both spas are perfect for anyone looking to treat themselves to a bit of luxury while on the island. Whether you’re staying at one of these resorts or simply visiting for a day, a spa treatment will leave you feeling refreshed and recharged, ready for more adventures on Grand Cayman. The combination of expert service, incredible facilities, and stunning surroundings makes both these spas worth every penny. So, go ahead—pamper yourself!

For the gentlemen looking to enjoy a bit of sport while the ladies indulge in a spa day, golf at The Ritz-Carlton is the perfect option. The Blue Tip Golf Course at The Ritz is a championship 9-hole, par 3 course that’s both challenging and scenic. Designed by Greg Norman, it’s an ideal spot for golfers of all skill levels, whether you’re a seasoned pro or just looking for a relaxing round in paradise. The course itself is beautifully landscaped, offering stunning views of the Caribbean Sea and the surrounding lush greenery, making each hole a visual treat as well as a fun challenge.

For those looking to improve their game, The Ritz also offers golf lessons with professional instructors, so you can get a few tips while enjoying the course. Afterward, you can head to the resort’s clubhouse for a refreshing drink and take in the panoramic views of the course. Whether you’re playing a round with friends or just enjoying a few quiet hours in the sun, golfing at The Ritz is a fantastic way to unwind and experience a different side of Grand Cayman’s luxury offerings.

Sunset & Sunrise –

One of the simplest yet most breathtaking activities you can experience in Grand Cayman is watching the sunrise and sunset. The island’s east and west coasts offer some of the most stunning natural displays, and catching both at least once during your stay should definitely be on your list.

For sunrise, head to the Eastern side of the island, where you can enjoy a quiet, peaceful morning as the sun rises over the Caribbean Sea. The view from places like Starfish Point or Rum Point is spectacular— the soft hues of pink and orange reflecting off the water create a serene, almost magical experience. It’s a perfect way to start the day, especially if you’re an early riser who loves to embrace the calm, quiet moments of the morning.

When it comes to sunset, the Western side of the island offers the best views. Grab a spot along 7 Mile Beach or head to The Westin for a front-row seat to one of the most vibrant sunsets you’ll ever witness. The sky comes alive with shades of purple, pink, and gold as the sun dips below the horizon. Whether you’re sipping a cocktail on the beach, enjoying a quiet dinner with friends, or simply sitting by the water, watching the sunset in Grand Cayman is the perfect way to end the day.

Both sunrise and sunset offer a chance to pause and appreciate the natural beauty of the island— don’t miss out on these peaceful, soul-soothing moments during your trip.

Go on a Beach Treasure Hunt –

If you’re a creative like me, one of the most fun (and relaxing) activities on Grand Cayman is going on a beach treasure hunt. Whether you’re an avid collector of seashells, beach glass, or just someone who loves to explore, the beaches here are full of natural wonders waiting to be discovered. Spend an afternoon strolling along 7 Mile Beach or the quieter stretches near Rum Point and you’ll find all kinds of treasures washed up by the tide—each one a little piece of the island’s story.

From unique seashells to smooth, colorful stones and even driftwood, there’s something magical about collecting these little beach treasures as keepsakes from your trip. If you’re a photographer or artist, these beach finds can also make for amazing photo opportunities or crafting materials. For me, it’s about embracing the simple joys of nature and using my creativity to see beauty in the smallest details.

So grab a bag or bucket, take a walk along the shore, and see what you can find. You never know what hidden gems the ocean will have in store for you!
