As you all probably know, the housing market is super crazy right now, and people have been selling their houses left and right. If this is you, and you just sold, bought, or plan on moving in the near future, then I wanted to put together my three best tips for those who are going to be moving!

1. Declutter BEFORE Moving
If you’re like the average American, chances are you have a good amount of things to move. Think ahead about decluttering, selling, and donating items in preparation before moving. While packing up your things, you may find that you don’t want to bring every single thing in your space right now, with you. The last thing you want to do is move all of your belongings, get into your new place, and realize that you don’t even want half of the things you just lugged with you.
I’ve always been into decluttering and minimizing, and recently I’ve been trying to be more mindful with my belongings and what I bring into my space. Maintaining a clutter free home/space can get super challenging at times, especially with the amount of things we consume these days. If you’re planning on moving soon, I would start with decluttering and get rid of the things you don’t plan to take with you. As the packing process begins, you may find you own A LOT more “stuff” than you think.
If you’re looking to get rid of items but not sure where to start, I recommend getting four bins and labeling them ‘Put Away’, ‘Sell’, ‘Donate/Give Away’, and ‘Throw Away’. If you are already past this and looking to declutter even more, I would use the “Packing Party” method which is perfect to do while moving. This method was created by Ryan Nicodemus and Joshua Fields Millburn of The Minimalists. The idea is to pack up all of your things and only take out what you need as you go. After a few months, the stuff left in the boxes can be sold or donated. Here is a helpful blog post that I always refer to where you can find a list of other ways to declutter your home, whether you’re moving or not!
2. Find Good Movers
The moving of your belongings always seems to be the most dreadful part. You’re going to want to decide if you want to hire a moving company or take on the challenge of doing it all yourself. While moving companies may seem like more money up front, you will shortly realize that doing it yourself can come with a lot of stress, hard work, and a lot of hidden fees. This can include things like moving boxes, packing materials, the cost of a moving truck or storage unit, and gas for transportation.
Whether you’re moving houses, apartments, or offices, having a stress-free move is going to make the process a lot easier. One moving company I found is: All In One Moving & Storage. They cover local, long distance, and commercial moving for residents living in the North East. Their movers are all trained and equipped to help handle all your moving needs. My opinion… keep moving stress free and just hire the movers!

*SIDE NOTE* If you are considering moving a business, you might want to look into commercial movers in New Jersey. Moving a business can be quite the process and a difficult task – especially if you have a lot of equipment. In this situation, I would DEFINITELY hire the movers.
3. Label Label Label
Whether you decide to hire movers or take it on yourself, you want to be sure to LABEL EVERYTHING. You think you will remember where you put things and what goes where, but moving can get pretty messy, pretty fast. There’s a high chance things will probably get scrambled in the process and you will most likely forget what items are in which box.
Once you’re all settled and it’s time to unload, you’re going to want to know exactly where to place the boxes. This will help keep the unpacking process to go much smoother, especially if you have movers coming in to help. Then, you can just look at the label on the box, and point to the room where each box belongs and that way everything will be in the right place. Then, you can slowly unpack each room without feeling extremely overwhelmed.
Don’t let moving be a stressful process for you. As long as you’re prepared and organized, everything should go smoothly. Best of luck!
